Xiaomi Mi 10 - An overview
Xiaomi’s Mi 10 hit the market with 5G connectivity, a 108 MP primary camera, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC processor. It is much different from the previous models in the series. While the Redmi series gained popularity in India for being affordable, the Mi 10 has other features to offer. With a price starting from Rs. 31,999, the smartphone has a Full HD 6.67-inch display screen with curved glass. Even the battery life and fast charging make it a worthy investment. Mi 10 is available in two colours - Twilight Grey and Coral Green. It also offers two RAM options (8GB and 12GB) to choose from.
Even though the smartphone did not get the same initial hype as the other brands released during the same period, Mi 10 gained popularity after customers realised that it delivered better performance. Xiaomi launched the Mi 10 in India in May 2020. A 4G version of the phone is also available.

1. Design and display
Given the steep increase in price, Xiaomi Mi 10 is expected to justify the cost, and it does so with ease. The curved glass on the front and back gives it a glossy and stylish finish. Though the phone is bigger and heavier (208 grams), it does not feel bulky and has a thickness of 9mm. The buttons on the side are easy to use. While there is no slot for a headphone jack, the phone comes with an adapter. Xiaomi Mi 10 has a P2i coating for water repellency. However, the IP rating is not mentioned. The coating should do the job well, though.
The 6.67-inch display screen is AMOLED and has a resolution of 2340x1080 with a 90Hz refresh rate. The colour accuracy is great, even if the sharpness is not perfect. The peak brightness reaches 1120 nits, which work well when using the phone in direct sunlight.
2. Storage and network
Xiaomi’s Mi 10 has two storage options – 128GB and 256GB. However, there is no extended memory due to the missing slot for a microSD card. The smartphone offers 4G and 5G connectivity models. Both come with Wi-Fi 6 support. The biggest benefit of Mi 10 is that it is not weighed down by bloatware like Mi Video, Mi music, etc., that eat up the memory space.
3. Performance and Operating System
The Snapdragon 865 processor and Android 10 OS (with upgrades available) power the smartphone for heavy use. However, Mi 10 continues to have the same heating as the other Redmi models. The phone gets hot with extended use, and the CPU might throttle a bit. Nevertheless, it can handle intense games as the phone has a multi-level cooling solution to prevent overheating.
Though the smartphone has a fingerprint sensor, it is a bit glitchy and does not always work. The sensor lags and can take even a full minute to unlock the phone. The speakers are decent even if they do not provide a super loud output, especially when playing games, as the fingers are likely to block the speakers.
4. Battery life
Mi 10 boasts a 4780mAh battery that can last a full day with moderate to heavy use. Moreover, the phone supports 30W wireless charging (along with fast wired charging). It also has a 10W reverse charging feature to power other devices. The phone can be connected to the standard USB Type-C Power Delivery and Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 for fast charging. When using the company’s adapter, it takes just an hour for the battery to go from zero to full.
5. Camera settings and quality
The company has provided a 108MP primary camera with the phone and supporting rear cameras with 13MP, 2MP, and 2MP lenses. The front camera has a 20MP lens and is great for selfies. The primary camera has a 2x zoom with a 10x digital zoom. Though the camera has been a selling point, it does not deliver exceptional results. The output is above average, and the Night Mode is okay. Sometimes, turning off the camera’s AI feature will improve clarity and precision. The phone supports 8K video resolution, but note that such videos will occupy a lot of memory space.
