Documents required to buy a policy
Here's the list of documents required to buy an HDFC Life Insurance policy.
- Age proof, such as birth certificate, passport, Aadhaar card, etc.
- Address proof, such as Aadhaar card, telephone bill, electricity bill, ration card
- Identity proof, such as Voter's ID, passport, driving licence
- Passport-sized photograph
- Medical reports (as applicable)
How to raise a claim
Follow these steps to raise claim requests against your HDFC Life Insurance policies.

Step 1 - Register the claim request
Register the claim request with the insurer through their website, e-mail or by calling their claim assistance contact number

Step 2 - Submit the required documents
Submit the necessary documents and duly filled claim form online. You can also submit the documents at the insurer’s nearest branch.

Step 3 - Claim assessment and settlement
Based on the documents submitted, HDFC Life will assess the claim request and process it accordingly. Claim initiator will receive an intimation via e-mail and SMS. You can also check the status online or through My Account (our customer portal).

- Original policy documents
- Attested copy of death certificate issued by the local municipal authority
- Death claim intimation form
- NEFT mandate form attested by bank authorities or copy of cancelled cheque or bank account passbook
- Nominee's photo identity and address proof (copy of Passport, Voter identity card, Aadhaar card)
- FIR copy or post-mortem report in case of an accidental/unnatural death
- Medical records at the time of death and past illnesses

Whole life insurance cover gives coverage for your entire life. You pay a premium for the first 10-15 years and get coverage up to the age of 99 years.
Surrender value is the amount that the policyholder gets if he terminates/ surrenders the policy before maturity. A regular premium policy acquires surrender value after the policyholder has paid the premiums continuously for three years.
With HDFC Life Guaranteed Savings Plan, get a guaranteed lumpsum amount on maturity and death benefit. You get an option to take policy loan up to 80% of the surrender value. You also have flexible premium payment option.

You can avail of tax exemptions for premiums paid under applicable tax laws.
The withdrawal limit depends on the policy that you choose. A ULIP permits a standard withdrawal of up to 10-20% of the total premium period. Some of the policies have a lock-in period of five years. You can avail of the surrender value benefit after the lock-in period is over.If you have surrendered within the five years, your funds will move to a discontinued policy fund and get paid after five years is complete.
