Google Pixel 8 Pro - Overview
Google’s Pixel range of smartphones is benefitting from the company’s AI advancements. The latest Pixel 8 Pro comes with a plethora of features, justifying the high price range. The phone is sure to stand out amongst the competition with its Tensor G3 processor, 12GB RAM, and two storage options – 128GB and 256GB. Not only is the hardware impressive, but the camera is one of the best in the market.
Released in October (2023), the Google Pixel 8 Pro came with a sharp price hike, becoming one of the most expensive smartphones by the company. However, it appeals to many Android lovers. The phone is available in two colours, Bay (Blue) and Obsidian (Black), and has a clean design.

- Design and appearance
The Google Pixel 8 Pro has quite a few changes to its design. It is neat and has clean lines with a flat display. The cameras are positioned on a chunky visor with sharp edges. The visor’s colour aligns with the phone’s colour to create a cohesive appearance. Moreover, there is a comfortable space to rest the index finger on the visor for a better grip when taking pictures. Despite the new developments, the phone has distinct Pixel features like the frosted glass back panel. The power button and volume keys are on the spine and easy to use. Pixel 8 Pro feels solid in the grip without being bulky. - Display
The display has also seen some changes. Apart from the new flatter design instead of curved, there is a Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for screen protection, which is more fracture-proof than the previous ones. The 6.7-inch screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1344 x 2992 pixels resolution makes it easy to use the phone almost anywhere. The screen brightness has been increased to 1600 nits (and peek brightness to 2000 nits) so that users can use the phone as a reader even in sunlight. The IP68 dust and water-resistant rating is another plus. - Battery life and performance
The Google Pixel 8 Pro has a better battery than the 7 Pro. The 5,050 mAh battery supports wired (30W) and wireless charging (23W). However, the box does not include a charger adapter. While the battery life is decent, it may not last more than a day. The AI features and the exclusive AI-based wallpaper consume more power and drain the battery faster. - Camera highlights
The Pixel 8 Pro has powerful cameras on the front and rear. The primary camera is 50MP with f/1.7 aperture, the telephoto camera has 48MP with f/2.8 aperture, and the ultrawide camera has 48MP and f/2.0 aperture lens. The front camera comes with a 10.5MP lens. The low-light pictures come up very well and set high standards. Daylight images are crisp, clear, and sharp. Even if the zoom feature lags a bit, the overall picture and video quality make up for the issues. - Connectivity and network
The Google smartphone supports 3G, 4G, and 5G technologies along with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, USB-C port, ultra-wideband (UWB), and NFC. It is also compatible with many GPS apps. - Storage capacity
The Pixel 8 Pro has two storage options, with 128GB being the basic model. However, this or the 256GB version doesn’t have free cloud storage. It would have been nice to have more storage options since some brands offer up to 1TB. While Pixel 8 Pro also has 1TB storage, this model is not available in India. - The AI Advantage
Apart from the AI wallpaper, Pixel 8 Pro can read aloud web pages, use Google Translate before reading the browser page contents, and be used as a hands-free device. While this feature had glitches on the Pixel 7 Pro, it works seamlessly on the Pixel 8 Pro. AI editing tools like Magic Eraser, Best Take, Audio Magic Eraser, Magic Editor, etc., allow users to edit images and audio files to perfection.
