How to Update/Register Mobile Number in EPF Account

There may be various reasons why you may want to change the name or number linked to your EPF account such as moving to another city or changing your details post marriage. Fortunately, your UAN (Universal Account Number) eases the process of making these changes, as it hosts all your account details in one place.

So, you can simply log on to the EPFO e-SEWA portal or visit your local Employee Provident Fund organisation office to alter your name, number, and other details. Once updated, you can continue to use the same account to check your PF balance, the status of your balance transfer, download your PF book and keep a track of other information.

But, do note that you cannot alter your details unless you link and verify your UAN with your Aadhaar number, so do this first before carrying out the following steps.

Changing your name in a Provident Fund (PF) account involves a formal process. It must be done in compliance with the rules and regulations of the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).

Steps to change the name in a PF account online:

1. Visit the “UAN portal”.
2. Log in to your EPF account using your user ID and password.
3. Navigate to the 'Modify' section and select 'Modify Basic Details.'
4. On the following page, you will find your existing details and the option to request a change.
5. Enter your name as it appears on your Aadhaar card in the 'Request Change' section.
6. Click the 'Update' button.
7. Once you've clicked 'Update,' you will receive a notification stating, 'Pending approval by Employer.'
8. Contact your employer to request their approval.
9. After your employer approves the request, the EPF office will update your name within 30 days.

Updating your mobile number in an EPF account is crucial for receiving important notifications and accessing various services provided by the EPFO.

Here is the breakdown of how to update your mobile number in your EPF account online:

1. Visit the EPFO e-SEWA portal.
2. Go to the ‘manage’ section and click on ‘contact details’ in the drop-down menu.
3. Click on ‘change mobile number’.
4. Enter the new mobile number and re-enter it.
5. Click on ‘get authorisation PIN’.
6. Enter the OTP received on your mobile number and click on ‘Save changes’ to complete the process.

Here is the breakdown of how to update your mobile number in your EPF account offline:

1. Fill the relevant form with the phone number and ensure that this number is linked to your Aadhaar Card.
2. Once your employer signs and approves this form, it will be forwarded to the regional PF office for approval.
3. After the new mobile number has been registered, you will receive an SMS from the EPFO confirming the update.

While making these changes, ensure that your name in the EPF database matches that listed against the bank account that is linked to your PF amount.

1. Visit the “EPF Member Portal” and select the "Forgot Password" option.
2. Provide your “UAN” and complete the captcha, then click the "Submit" button.
3. Input your name, date of birth, and gender, and click the "Verify" button.
4. Validate these details against your Aadhaar information by entering your Aadhaar number and the captcha code. Consent to Aadhaar-based authentication and click "Verify" to confirm your request.
5. Once the details are confirmed, enter your new mobile number and click "Get OTP."
6. An OTP will be sent to your new mobile number. Enter the OTP and click "Verify."
7. After the OTP is successfully verified, you will be prompted to create a new password. Enter your new password twice and click "Submit." Your password will be updated, and your new mobile number will be recorded in the system simultaneously.
