About PMAY G

The Central Government of India launched the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in 2016. Under this scheme, the government, in collaboration with state governments, hopes to build 2 crore homes for the urban poor. By 2019, the government had already built 1.12 crore homes under the scheme.

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has two components: PMAY-U or PMAY-Urban and PMAY-G/ PMAY-R or PMAY-rural. The homes developed under the scheme have clean sanitary facilities and toilets, easy access to clean drinking water, and a proper electricity connection.

PMAY has four components and each component deals with assisting different sections of society. The PMAY Gramin concerns itself with rural poor. Listed below are the eligibility requirements for only PMAY-G for the benefit of aspiring applicants.

What are the Eligibility Criteria For PMAY G?

The government has laid out clear and elaborate eligibility requirements for PMAY-G. In this article, we discuss those in detail.

  • Families with no current housing can apply to avail of benefits associated with PMAY-G.
  • Families that live in Kucha houses having a Kutcha roof and no more than two rooms can also apply to avail of benefits under PMAY-G.
  • Families with no literate adult above the age of 25 can apply.
  • Similarly, families with disabled members and families having no adult male in the age bracket 16 and 59 are eligible to apply for benefits under the PMAY-G scheme.
  • Families having no land in the name of any family member and those earning income from casual labour are also eligible to apply for benefits under this scheme.
  • Members from Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and Minorities are eligible to apply.
  • Lastly, the scheme aims to help women in the country. Therefore, one of the requirements to be eligible for this scheme is that the house must be in the name of a female member of the family. Male members can hold joint ownership.

If an applicant meets the eligibility requirements mentioned above, they can apply for benefits under the scheme. One can make an application both offline as well as online.
