In Kanpur, the property tax system is a significant source of revenue for the Kanpur Municipal Corporation. In this article, we will explore the various aspects of the Kanpur Property Tax, from its calculation to online payment options.

Kanpur Property Tax: Overview

The Kanpur Property Tax, like property taxes in most Indian cities, is levied on both residential and commercial properties. This tax is essential for the maintenance and development of civic amenities, including roads, sewage systems, and public services, ensuring that the city continues to thrive.

Kanpur Property Tax calculation

Property tax in Kanpur is typically calculated based on the property's annual rental value, which is determined by the Kanpur Municipal Corporation. The calculation takes into account factors such as the property's size, location, type (residential or commercial), and any additional amenities.

Calculate Kanpur Property Tax for residential buildings

To calculate property tax for residential buildings in Kanpur, follow these general steps:

  1. Determine the property's total built-up area.
  2. Consider the unit area value set by the municipal corporation for the specific area where your property is located.
  3. Calculate the property's annual rental value by multiplying the built-up area and unit area value.
  4. Apply the applicable property tax rate, which varies depending on the property's use and the amount determined in step 3.
  5. The final figure is your property tax liability.

Calculate Kanpur Property Tax for commercial buildings

Calculating property tax for commercial buildings in Kanpur is a slightly different process:

  1. Measure the total built-up area of the commercial property.
  2. Determine the unit area value set by the municipal corporation for the area.
  3. Calculate the annual rental value of the property by multiplying the built-up area and the unit area value.
  4. Apply the applicable property tax rate based on the property's use and the value calculated in step 3.
  5. The result represents the property tax due for your commercial property.
