From March to November. Daylight Saving Time (DST) shifts trading hours an hour earlier. The standard trading hours for the NYSE and NASDAQ, excluding holidays, are Monday through Friday. Additionally, certain equities are available for pre-market and after-hours trading from 4:00 AM to 8:00 PM EST. US stock market timings are based on the Eastern Time Zone or ET. When discussing ET and the US market opening time, it is important to consider the following variables:

  • Eastern Standard Time (EST): EST is observed during the autumn and winter months. It is 5 hours behind the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC-5) or Greenwich Mean Time.
  • Eastern Daylight Time (EDT): EDT is observed in the spring and summer months. Due to daylight savings, EDT is 4 hours behind the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC-4) or Greenwich Mean Time.

  • Every market mentioned closes at 1:30 PM (1:15 PM for a few eligible options) every Friday. Also, the market closes at this time on the day after Thanksgiving (November 28th, 2024).

    From 1 PM, crossing session orders are taken, and continuous executions are done until 1:30 PM on the above-mentioned days. For some platforms like NYSE National, NYSE Arca Equities, NYSE Chicago, and NYSE American Equities, there are late trading sessions that continue until 5 PM.
