How to update name on NSDL PAN card?

Updating your PAN card details via the NSDL (now Protean) website involves the following steps:

  1. Visit the NSDL website: Go to NSDL e-Gov Portal.
  2. Navigate to PAN services: Under the Services section, click on “PAN”.
  3. Apply for changes/correction: Click “Apply” under the “Change/Correction in PAN” section.
  4. Select application type: From the ‘Application Type’ dropdown menu, select ‘Changes or Correction in existing PAN data/Reprint of PAN Card (No changes in Existing PAN Data)’.
  5. Choose category: From the ‘Category’ dropdown menu, select the appropriate category, such as ‘Individual’.
  6. Enter personal details: Provide your name, date of birth, email address, and mobile number.
  7. Complete captcha and submit: Fill in the Captcha and click on “Submit”.
  8. Receive token number: You will receive a Token Number via email. Click the button to continue.
  9. Submit documents: You will be redirected to the PAN card update form. Choose to submit scanned images through e-Sign on the NSDL e-gov portal.
  10. Fill in details: Provide all necessary details, including your father’s name, mother’s name (optional), and Aadhaar number. Click ‘Next’.
  11. Update address: You will be redirected to a new page to update your address.
  12. Upload documents: Upload the necessary documents, such as proof of address, proof of age, proof of identity, and PAN.
  13. Sign declaration: Sign the declaration and click “Submit”.
  14. Make payment: You will be redirected to the payment page. Payment can be made through demand draft, net banking, or credit/debit card.
  15. Send acknowledgement: After successful payment, an acknowledgement slip will be generated. Print it and send it to the NSDL e-gov office along with the physical proof of documents, affixed with two photographs and signed across. Label the envelope with ‘Application for PAN Change’ and the acknowledgement number.

How to update name on UTI PAN card?

To update your PAN card details via the UTIITSL portal, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the UTIITSL website: Go to UTIITSL Portal.
  2. PAN card services: Under PAN Card Services, click on “Apply PAN Card”.
  3. Apply for changes/correction: Under the “Change/Correction in PAN Card” tab, click “Click to Apply”.
  4. Select application type: Click on “Apply for Change/Correction in PAN Card Details”.
  5. Document submission: Choose the mode of document submission, enter your PAN, choose the PAN card mode, and click “Submit”.
  6. Re-enter PAN: Re-enter your PAN and click “Ok”.
  7. Receive reference number: Once registered, you will get a reference number. Click “Ok”.
  8. Enter personal details: Enter your name, address, and other details, and click “Next Step”.
  9. Verification: Enter PAN and verification details, then click “Next Step”.
  10. Upload documents: Upload the required documents and click “Submit”.

Note: It usually takes around 15 days for the PAN correction/update process. You will receive a text message on your registered mobile number when your PAN card is dispatched via post.

Documents required for PAN card name change

To update your PAN card details, you must submit certain documents to NSDL/UTIITSL along with the application form. The following documents can serve as proof of identity, address, date of birth, and existing PAN:

For individuals and HUF

  • ID proof
  • Aadhaar Card issued by UIDAI
  • Elector’s photo identity card
  • Driving Licence
  • Passport
  • Ration card with the applicant’s photograph
  • Arm’s licence
  • Photo identity card issued by the Central/State Government or Public Sector Undertaking
  • Pensioner card with the applicant’s photograph
  • Central Government Health Service Scheme Card or Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme photo card

Residence proof

  • Aadhaar Card issued by UIDAI
  • Elector’s photo identity card
  • Driving Licence
  • Passport
  • Passport of the spouse
  • Post office passbook with the applicant’s address
  • Latest property tax assessment order
  • Domicile certificate issued by the Government
  • Allotment letter of accommodation issued by the Central/State Government (not more than three years old)
  • Property Registration Document

Age proof

  • Aadhaar card issued by the UIDAI
  • Elector’s photo identity card
  • Driving licence
  • Passport
  • Matriculation certificate or mark sheet from a recognised board
  • Birth certificate issued by the municipal authority or any office authorised to issue birth and death certificates by the Registrar of Birth and Deaths or the Indian Consulate
  • Photo identity card issued by the Central/State Government or Public Sector Undertaking
  • Domicile certificate issued by the Government
  • Central Government Health Service Scheme photo card or Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme photo card
  • Pension payment order
  • Marriage certificate issued by the Registrar of Marriages
  • Affidavit sworn before a magistrate stating the date of birth

If none of these documents are available, you can also use:

  • A certificate in original signed by a Member of Parliament, Member of Legislative Assembly, Municipal Councillor, or a Gazetted officer (in prescribed format)
  • Bank certificate in original on letterhead from the branch (with name and stamp of the issuing officer) containing a duly attested photograph and bank account number of the applicant (in prescribed format)
  • Employer certificate in original (in prescribed format)

For Indian companies/ entities incorporated in India/ unincorporated entities

  • Company: Certificate of Registration issued by the Registrar of Companies.
  • Partnership firm: Certificate of Registration issued by the Registrar of Firms or a copy of the partnership deed.
  • Limited liability partnership: Certificate of Registration issued by the Registrar of LLPs.
  • Trust: Trust deed or copy of the certificate of registration number issued by the Charity Commissioner.
  • Association of person, body of individuals, local authority, or artificial juridical person: Agreement or certificate of registration number issued by the charity commissioner, registrar of cooperative society, or any other competent authority or document originating from any Central/State Government Department establishing the identity and address of such person.

For Individuals and HUFs (non-citizens of India):

Proof of Identity

  • Passport
  • Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card issued by the Government of India
  • Person of Indian Origin (PIO) card issued by the Government of India
  • Other national or citizenship Identification Number or Taxpayer Identification Number duly attested by ‘Apostille’ or by the Indian Embassy or High Commission or Consulate in the country where the applicant is located, or authorised officials of overseas branches of Scheduled Banks registered in India (in prescribed format)

  • Person of Indian Origin (PIO) card issued by the Government of India

  • Non-resident External (NRE) bank account statement in India

For corporate entities having no office in India

Proof of Identity and Address

  • Certificate of Registration issued in the country where the applicant is located, duly attested by ‘Apostille’ or by the Indian Embassy or High Commission or Consulate in the country where the applicant is located, or authorised officials of overseas branches of Scheduled Banks registered in India (in prescribed format)
  • Registration certificate issued in India or approval granted to set up an office in India by Indian authorities
