PAN card verification is a crucial process for all Indian citizens. The PAN card provided by the Income Tax Department works as the unique identifier of an individual. It helps in different financial activities like opening a bank account, applying for a credit card, and filing Income Tax Returns. As a result, PAN card details must be verified regularly. Let us look at the PAN card verification process, including the various types of verification.
What is online PAN card verification?
A PAN card is an essential document for individuals and organisations. It serves as a valid identity proof document. Also, a PAN card is necessary for transactions that involve payment of taxes. You need PAN card verification to check if your PAN card details are valid, deactivated, or deleted. The check will also tell you if you have a fake PAN card or if it is missing in the Income Tax Department’s database. You can get the status details easily with an online PAN card verification.
Types of PAN card verification
There are three ways to verify your PAN card online.
- File- and screen-based verification: This method of verification is designed for organisations or governments that need to validate up to 1,000 PAN cards at once. Logging in to the e-governance website is necessary to use this service.
- Screen-based verification: It allows the user to validate up to five PAN cards at once. The user had to log in to the e-governance website to use screen-based verification.
- Software (API)-based verification: This solution allows PAN verification using a website's software application.
PAN card verification costs vary as per the type of verification method and number of verifications. The Income Tax Department has given the authorisation to Protean eGov Technologies Limited to enable authorised agencies to provide online PAN verification services. These external entities include the Reserve Bank of India, banks, RBI-approved NBFCs, and others.
To register for the online PAN verification, these external agencies need to submit organisation details, digital signature certificate details, and more. Once authorised, the external agencies will get the user login credentials to perform PAN card verification in bulk.
