The Mohali Electricity Board is a part of the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB), which was formed on February 1, 1959. The PSEB was reorganised in 1967 following the reorganisation of the erstwhile State of Punjab.

Percentage of late tariffs levied by the board

• For consumers with a connected load of 100 kW and above, a late payment surcharge of 5% is levied. This is applicable for up to 7 days after the due date. After 7 days, the surcharge increases to 10% of the total bill amount for up to one year from the due date.
• For consumers with a connected load less than 100 kW, a 10% late payment surcharge is levied on the total bill amount. This is for up to one year if the bill is not paid by the due date.
• After one year from the due date, the gross unpaid amount, including the surcharge, is charged. An interest rate of 1.5% per month is applicable.
